KIND AND SELFLESS. Those were the words Mayor Beng Climaco used to describe a student of the Santa Maria Central School Special Education Center, whose only wish for her classroom was just one television set.
It was only last year that Jellyn Castillan wished that someone would donate a television for her class. And Jellyn had her wish come true after Climaco donated over a dozen brand new, 43-inch Samsung full high definition television sets, to Jellyn and her school.

It was an emotional moment not only for Jellyn and her classmates, but also the teachers at the school when Climaco handed over the televisions in a simple ceremony held recently.
And the good news did not stop there – Climaco, whose priorities include “education” – said at least 600 more brand new televisions are on their way to other School Special Education Centers to help and aid students in their class.
The digital televisions are all equipped with 2 High-Definition Multimedia Interface ports and one Universal Serial Bus port. Climaco said the use of television as a tool for learning will make classroom activities more interesting, colorful and meaningful, and vowed to continue other educational programs to help improve the quality of education in Zamboanga.
The local government, with the strong support of the members of the City Council, appropriated some P1.9 billion for educational programs in the last 5 years as part of the Climaco’s flagship program on Security, Health and Education. (Zamboanga Post)
