Knife attack in London leaves 1 dead, several injured – CBS News

Editor August 4, 2016

A 19-year-old man in possession of a knife killed one person and injured several more at Russell Square in London late Wednesday, Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Five people were injured in the attack that occurred around 10:30 p.m. local time. A female was treated at the scene, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The suspect was arrested just minutes after the attack, police said. A Taser was discharged by one of the arresting officers.

“Early indications suggest mental health is a significant factor in this case and that is one major line of inquiry,” the statement from police said. “But of course at this stage we should keep an open mind regarding motive and consequently terrorism as a motivation remains but one line of inquiry for us to explore.”

Authorities said there will be an increased police presence in London on Thursday.(SHANNON LUIBRAND CBS NEWS)
