The Provincial Health Office of Lanao del Norte (LDN) organized its First Provincial Health Summit at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium, to recognize efforts of local government units and hand awards to health workers implementing government health programs.
The summit theme is “Bridging Gaps, Crossing Frontiers towards Sustainable Health for All.”
Led by Dr. Melania Untao, the summit aims to also strengthen the relationship of all health offices in the province and its stakeholders.
Lanao del Norte has six provincial hospitals and seven private hospitals.
Dr. Untao said, “Department of Health has now deployed “Doctors to the Barrios,” to expand and extend public service in isolated areas in Lanao del Norte.”
Four municipalities received awards in implementing Schistosomiasis program: Sapad, Kapatagan, Salvador and Lala.
Municipality of Bacolod also received an award as the first to successfully implement Zero Open Defecation Program.
In her message, Vice Governor Cristy Navarro Atay acknowledged all nurses, midwives, and doctors in their unending love and care to the patients.
“In every touch you made, you save lives and as a woman I salute you all,” she said.
Provincial Council Board Member Harris Ali recognized the efforts of all private and public hospitals as well as the Rural Health Units in Lanao del Norte for their achievements and invaluable contribution to the health sector.
“You are all modern heroes,” Ali said.
The daylong activity was participated by the rural health units, private and public hospitals, DOH program coordinators, and representative from the national government agencies, municipal mayors, and other provincial and local officials.(By Hicelyn F. Pantorilla)
