Letters to the Editor: The PNP-SAF officers have been sent to their deaths by Aquino-Purisima and by the US Troops – Bayan

Dear Editor,
They who planned the attack and ordered the PNP-SAF elite force must have known that Mamasapano not only housed the 105th Base Command of the MILF, but 2 other camps as well: the 106th and 118th Base Camps. With 2 other MILF groups near the location of the encounter, it would be no surprise that the surviving PNP-SAF members claimed that they were helpless as they were overrun by the MILF from three directions.

The surviving SAF commandos bore witness to the lack of intelligence prior to the operation. During the firefight, they saw themselves fighting in open fields that provided little or no cover against the defenses of the 105th Base Camp and the onslaught of the forces that reinforced later. The mud-strewn boots of the dead SAF officers are a testament that they fought in disadvantageous terrain, one that easily limited their mobility in the fight.
Worse, the police commandos used their cellphones to call for artillery support, but could not provide grid coordinates of their current location and their enemy’s. Is this to say that the country’s elite force, trained by the US under the EDCA and armed with guns bought with the taxes of millions of Filipinos, went into a fight that they did not know the location of, that they had not come prepared with maps nor have been briefed should such worst-case scenarios happen?
Was it the case that the PNP-SAF forgot that the MILF camps were contiguous to civilian communities, and that to attack these camps would be to damage civilian property, if not killing non-combatants in the process? Why would they be so rash that they would risk killing civilians? Could they not have waited that Marwan was out of the MILF camp and away from the civilian population, so as not to endanger the lives of the SAF commandos and the innocent settlers nearby?
Also why would Supt. Purisima be handling the operation, when questions of integrity have already placed him in a suspension and despite this, why was he giving commands from Camp Crame? Shouldn’t he be foot-present with the operatives, to be in proximity with the actual area of the operations, so he could assess the situation up-close and immediately give instructions, if he should really be the one giving them? Purisima had already been suspended from his position. To allow him to command such high-profile operation fails the suspension placed upon him, if not mocking the disciplinary system among the police force.
In the end, the 44 dead commandos look more like pawns in the US-led “war on terror”, ones that have been sent by the puppet Aquino administration, with the civilian deaths as “collateral damage” in the matter. The Mamasapano incident is more than a failed operation at the level of implementation; it is a display of the puppetry of the Aquino administration, and the bloodthirsty appetite of the warmonger imperialist US. Aquino, as the Commander-in-chief, betrayed the policemen and he must be held accountable.
We sympathize with the families of the slain PNP-SAF personnel and above all I sympathize and demand justice for the civilians who were killed during the horrible attack.
