MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / July 13, 2013) – Libyan authorities have rescued a Filipino nurse who was reportedly abducted by a taxi driver in Sebha City.
Two other Filipino nurses escaped and reported the abduction that prompted Libyan authorities to pursue the driver and eventually caught up with him and rescued the nurse.

The Filipino migrants’ rights group Migrante was the first to break the news about the July 9 abduction and alerted the Philippine authorities about it.

John Leonard Monterona, Migrante’s vice chairman and international coordinator in the Middle East and North Africa, has confirmed the rescue, saying all three nurses – one of them a woman – are safe, although traumatized.

“They are now resting at their company-provided accommodation in Sebha City,” Monterona said.

He said the driver allegedly tried to rape the female nurse, but her companions fought back and were abled to escape with the woman, and leaving behind the other nurse. The three are working for the Al-Sebha Medical Clinic. They have requested their employer to transfer them to Tripoli following their traumatic ordeal.
