THE LIGHT Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) on Thursday suspended its operations following a fire caused by a power transformer that tripped between Katipunan and Anonas stations and in the Santolan depot.
In a message, lawyer Hernan Cabrera, LRT-2 spokesperson, said full suspension of the rail line took effect at 11:33 a.m. and partial operations were being evaluated.
“We are evaluating two options for partial operations — Recto-Cubao and back/Recto-Anonas. But the options depend on the availability of power supply given the fact that the power rectifier (transformer) in the Katipunan area is damaged,” Cabrera said.
He added the LRT-2 has reversing tracks in Anonas and Cubao, which can be used for partial operations, but would also depend on available power.
In a Twitter post, the LRT-2 said the fire has been contained at 12:31 p.m. and the cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
The LRT-2 has a total length of about 13.8 kilometers and when fully operational, its trains run from Santolan in Pasig City to Recto in Manila.(By Raymond Carl Dela Cruz)
