
COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 25, 2014) – Maguindanao’s Upi town has received an initial funding of P2.5 million for a market facility from the regional government as part of its infrastructure support.
Mayor Ramon Piang, Sr. received the initial funding from the total amount of P5 million.
Piang, a respected politician in Maguindanao, was also cited by various organizations, among them the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and the Canadian International Development Agency-Local Government Support Program, because of his outstanding leadership in Upi, whose 45,000-population includes the indigenous Teduray tribe, Muslims and Christians.
“Mayor Piang’s achievements are not only recognized by his people and local counterparts, he was also cited by the Canadian International Development Agency – Local Government Support Program as a model leader; and his town, a showcase of the true meaning of good and transparent governance. A citation that represented the holistic attainment of the recipient-LGU in terms of enhanced capacities that exemplify good governance,” according to Ramon Aboitiz Foundation.
Piang is also an awardee of the Civil Service Commission Honor Awards Program in 2012. The town is a consistent recipient of awards and citations on good governance, including the Seal of Good Housekeeping of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
