
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 27, 2014) – Police have seized illegal lumber in two separate operations in Zamboanga Peninsula in western Mindanao region.
Police and a team from the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Environment Municipal Office led by Ferdinand Borgonia and Bon Basil Lambo confiscated 116 mahogany lumber at Sitio Mahayahay in Rizal’s Nilabo village.
It said the owner of the lumber failed to present any documents or permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources or DENR allowing him to cut and transport the flitches.
In Zamboanga City, police forces also intercepted a truck transporting coconut lumber without a legal permit from the Philippine Coconut Authority in the village of Upper Calarian, police said. (Mindanao Examiner)
