Malaysian tourists continue to flock Visayas

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas said it is targeting more Malaysian tourists to visit the central Philippine region this year following an increase tourist arrivals in Iloilo province in 2014.

DOT Regional Director Helen Catalbas said Aklan is the top destination for Malaysians followed by Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

She said there was more than 200% increase in the arrival of Malaysian tourists in the region and this is expected to increase further this year.

“We are confident that more Malaysian tourists will be interested to visit Western Visayas once they are convinced this region has a lot to offer in terms of tourist attractions, facilities and services,” Catalbas said.

Malaysia recorded the highest growth rate in tourist arrivals to the Philippines for the first nine months of 2014. (Cebu Examiner)
