Man desperate for help for injured son stabs doctor, nurse in Davao City hospital

Desk Editor January 7, 2016

DAVAO CITY – A man, who was desperately pleading for help for his injured son at a local hospital, stabbed a doctor and a nurse with a syringe after failing to get emergency medical attention.

Jesus Manalo was immediately subdued following the attack at the emergency room of the Southern Philippines Medical Center – formerly Davao Medical Center – at dawn Tuesday.

The man said he brought his six-year son who was hit by a vehicle late on Monday and pleaded for the doctors and nurses to attend to his boy, but he had been ignored. He said other patients who came later were assisted by medical staff, but not his child.

Out of desperation, Manalo said he got a syringe and attacked the nurse and then the doctor and also tried to stab other people in the hospital. The whole scene was captured by the hospital’s security camera. The victims were immediately treated in the hospital.

Policemen, who responded to the emergency, arrested Manalo. It was unknown whether the victims would file charges against the man or not. (Mindanao Examiner)
