
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 6, 2014) – Motorcycle gunmen shot dead a 32-year old man and wounded his one-year old niece in another attack in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said Sunday.
Police said Prince Tiam-wat Bayabos was shot at MC Enriquez Drive in Don Alfaro Street in the village of Tetuan. Bayabos just arrived with his niece in the village when the gunmen who were tailing them attacked him at around 4.30 p.m. on June 5.
The victim was shot in the head and chest at close range, police said, adding, Bayabos’ niece was hit by a stray bullet in her behind. The gunmen escaped after the shooting.
“Investigation disclosed that victim together with his niece arrived at the vicinity of Julito Ormedo residence of said place when two suspects suddenly appeared onboard XRM motorcycle color black wherein the back rider shot the victim in close range,” a police report said.
No other details about the victim were released by the police. The motive of the killing is unknown and no individual claimed responsibility for the murder, but it was the second killing in the area in just one week.
Motorcycle gunmen also killed a 23-year old Filipino-Chinese Marvin Luy Yee and wounded another man Gerald Usain, 23. The attack occurred near at MC Enriquez Drive. The assailants fled after the shooting and police investigators recovered 10 bullet casings of .45-caliber pistol.
It was not unknown if the two killings were connected or not, but gun attacks common in Zamboanga City where hired killers are actively operating.
On July 4, an unidentified gunman also shot and killed a 24-year old Rey Angelo Tan, who owns a motorcycle spare parts store in the village of Guiwan near Tetuan.
Tan, who was just sitting in front of his store, had been shot four times and police investigators recovered bullet casings of 9mm pistol from the area. The assailant fled on foot towards Cabato Road after the shooting and was picked up by an accomplice who was on a motorbike. (Mindanao Examiner)
