PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / June 28, 2014) – A lone gunman attacked and killed a policeman and wounded four people on Saturday in Margosatubig town in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur, officials said.
Officials said the attacker, Honey Alibasa, walked into a hospital and grabbed the pistol of the security guard Roland Emaya and then shot him at close range before barging in the nearby house of policeman Ryan Ponce and shot him and his father Leopoldo and their friend Ruby Cantarona.
Alibasa also shot and wounded SPO3 Julius Arnoco who was just walking nearby and then fled after the murderous rampage. The young Ponce was killed in the attack.
Officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the motive of the attack, but an initial police report said it could connected to the killing of Alibasa’s father more than a decade ago by members of the town’s police force.
“There is an investigation going on and we have to wait for the results of this investigation. Police are also tracking down the assailant,” said Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman. (Jong Cadion and Ely Dumaboc)
