Marawi City, liberated na raw?

MARAWI CITY – Matapos na mapatay ng militar ang pinuno ng ISIS sa bansa na si Isnilon Hapilon, idineklara naman ngayon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na “Malaya” na ang Marawi City sa kabila ng patuloy na opensiba ng pamahalaan kontra natitirang mga armado.

Lumipad si Duterte sa Marawi upang pangunahan ang pagtataas ng watawat ng bansa doon bilang simbolo ng kalayaan mula ISIS. Binigyan rin ng security briefing ng militar si Duterte ukol sa operasyon laban sa ISIS.

Sinabi naman ni Col. Romeo Brawner, ang tagapagsalita ng militar sa Marawi na posibleng pabalikin na ang mga residente sa Marawi, ngunit mauuna muna ang mga opisyales ng barangay at ika-cluster umano ang mga lugar na deklaradong ligtas na.

Tuloy-tuloy rin, ani Brawner, ang mopping-up operation sa iba’t-ibang barangay malapit sa “battle zone” upang masigurong ligtas ito mula sa mga “straggler” at bomba na iniwan ng ISIS. Maging ang paghahanap sa mga bihag ng ISIS ay wala rin humpay, dagdag pa ni Brawner.

Napatay ng mga sundalo nitong Lunes ng hating-gabi si Hapilon at Omar Maute, na lider ng ISIS, at 7 iba pa, ngunit nasawi rin ang isang babae at bata na dala nito at posibleng nahagip ng ligaw na bala, at nailigtas naman ang mahigit sa isang dosenang bihag. Nabawi ang mga bangkay nina Hapilon at Maute kamakalawa ng madaling araw at positibo itong kinilala ng militar.

Dahil sa pagkakapaslang kina Hapilon, ipinag-utos naman kahapon ng Eastern Mindanao Command sa Davao City ang mahigpit na seguridad sa magulong rehiyon dahil sa posibleng ganti ng mga jihadist groups at Abu Sayyaf na kung saan ay pinuno rin si Hapilon. Humihingi rin ito ng kooperasyon sa publiko upang masawata ang anumang balak ng mga terorista, partikular sa Davao City na lugar ni Duterte.

“We recognize the importance of the support coming from the populace. We therefore ask everyone to be vigilant and to report to the authorities any suspicious activities in their respective communities,” ani Lieutenant General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, ang hepe ng Eastern Mindanao Command.
