ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 19, 2014) – Police arrested a marine soldier for carrying an unlicensed pistol in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the soldier, Corporal Reymundo Atienza, 35, was nabbed at Sampaloc Drive in the village of Lower Calarian.

Policemen, who are members of the Quick Reaction Unit 3 of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, seized Atienza’s .45-caliber pistol and four magazines and 20 bullets.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said the police team responded in the area following “alarm and scandal” report from villagers.

It was not immediately known whether the soldier fired his weapon indiscriminately or not, but Huesca said the marine was arrested and detained at the local police on charges of “alarm and scandal.”

There was no immediate statement from the Philippine Marines about the arrest of the soldier. (Mindanao Examiner)
