ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police arrested 6 people, including a municipal mayor, on corruption allegations in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.
Police said it served the arrest warrant on Sibuco Mayor Nurbederie Edding in his house in the village of Santa Maria here on Monday.
Three municipal councillors – Norbryan Bederi Edding, Nasser Sahi Mahamod and Absar Naing Caril were also arrested and so were two former council members Malik Mandi Tutuan and Jaapal Callon Dodong, and ex-Association of Barangay Councils chairman Abbas Sulaiman Samson.
The provincial police said Inspector Joel Adajar, of the Sibuco police force, served the warrant issued by the Sandigan Bayan 7th Division under Alexander Gesmundo for alleged violations of Sec. 3 (a) RA 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Those arrested immediately posted bail of P30,000 each, police said.
“On same date, the arrested persons were able to post bail for their temporary liberty in the amount of thirty thousand (P30,000) each at RTC ZC duly signed by the Executive Judge Gregorio dela Pena III,” it said.
No other details were made available by the police and the mayor or any of those who posted bail could not be immediately reached for a statement on the allegations. (Mindanao Examiner)
