McDonald’s Corporation Grants George and Kenneth Yang a new 20-year license term to operate McDonald’s in the Philippines

McDonald’s Philippines marked another milestone with a simultaneous livestream celebration held in three major cities – Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The event marked the announcement of its 20-year franchise agreement with McDonald’s Corporation, allowing the brand to continue operating in the Philippines until 2045.

Led by Chairman & Founder, Dr. George T. Yang, who introduced the brand to the country in 1981, and Kenneth S. Yang, President and CEO of Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC) – McDonald’s exclusive master franchisee in the Philippines – the celebration was a powerful symbol of legacy, leadership, and future ambitions.

The renewed agreement with McDonald’s Corporation, headquartered in Chicago, solidifies GADC’s authority to operate, expand, and sub-franchise McDonald’s restaurants across the nation. This milestone underscores more than four decades of leadership from the Yangs and their commitment to bringing the McDonald’s experience closer to more Filipinos, one community at a time.

“When I applied for a franchise in the ‘70s, I dreamed of opening 10 stores. This year, we’re opening our 800th,” George Yang proudly shared during the livestream.

Today, McDonald’s Philippines stands as one of the brand’s most dynamic and fastest-growing markets, ending 2024 with 792 stores. With the new franchise term, the company eyes accelerated growth, particularly in emerging areas outside Metro Manila – generating jobs, empowering communities, and driving economic progress.

Kenneth Yang added, “This new chapter signals bigger growth, stronger community impact, and better experiences for every Filipino we serve.”

Backed by innovation, digital expansion, and Filipino pride, McDonald’s Philippines is ready for the next 20 years – continuing to serve smiles, build futures, create lasting memories and more feel-good moments ahead. (Emman Alba)
