THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ADVISER ON THE PEACE PROCESS extends its greetings for peace, happiness and prosperity to Muslim Filipino communities on this blessed day of Eid ul-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice.
The concept of sacrifice, as demonstrated in Prophet Abraham’s life of humility and selflessness in pursuit of a greater good, is known to us all, both Muslims and Christians alike. Beyond the religious aspect, the story speaks to us of encountering trials, and overcoming these with strong faith. The story inspires us that through hard work, perseverance and sacrifice, we will be able to overcome challenges and build lasting peace for generations to come.
Today’s festivity commemorates and honors Prophet Abraham whose obedience to and love for God above all were tested and proven when he willingly undertook to sacrifice his son Ismael upon faith to a divine command. For this, God blessed Abraham with a long and fruitful life.
Eid ul-Adha comes this year at the same time as the first anniversary of the signing of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro last 15 October 2012, at the Malacanang Palace. The FAB is a historic milestone, a collective feat of the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The most important things come at a high price. FAB was borne out of decades of hard work, of sacrifices, and a leap of faith of a people, and its worth constitutes the beginning of peace and progress not just in Mindanao but of the whole country.
Through our unity and commitment towards inclusive peace, we can achieve our aspirations without the need for sacrifices that will further wound our communities, our country. We reiterate our call to the Filipino people to continue accompanying the peace process.
May God guide us in our collective endeavors for just and lasting peace. In ShaAllah.
Salaam and Eid Mubarak!
