ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 1, 2014) – A metal scrap buyer who survived a deadly rebel attack in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines last year was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman here.
Police said Asari Arani, 38, was shot several times near a river in the village of Maasin. It was unknown what Arani was doing in the village, but police said the victim was among those who are temporarily staying at a refugee shelter at R.T. Lim Boulevard near downtown Zamboanga.
Arani was shot at least three times in the head and police said grudge is likely motive behind the killing.
Police investigators said they also recovered bullet casings in the area where Arani was shot. Arani was among the more than 120,000 people who were affected by the September attack of the Moro National Liberation Front members that killed and wounded over 400 people.
No individual claimed responsibility for the killing, but gun attacks are common in Zamboanga where hired killers actively operate. (Mindanao Examiner)
