The man whose nephew made the ‘find’ has also made the extraordinary claim the aircraft part contained skeleton remains in the pilot’s chair with the seatbelt fastened.
The pair were said to be hunting for birds when they spotted the wreckage in Mindanao, the second largest island in the country.
The uncle, named as Jamil Omar, an audio visual technician in his 40s, said he discovered the human bones in the alleged Malaysian Airlines cockpit, before leaving the area with the flag emblazoned plane piece.
He has now contacted police in Malaysia.
State Commissioner Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman, of Malaysia’s Sabah region, said the report was made yesterday.
He added: “This matter is being investigated.”
The Department of Civil Aviation in Malaysia has also been contacted.
Malaysian transport minister Liow Tiong Lai said: “I have told the DCA to look into the report. We don’t know if the report is true, so we need to verify it first.
“Let’s not speculate and give space to the DCA to conduct its investigation.”
The discovery, which was also said to contain other human remains, was alleged to have been made in a forest area near the Philippines coastline.(ROB VIRTUE)
