Militar, nagbabawas na ng puwersa sa Marawi

MARAWI CITY – Dahan-dahan nang nagbabawas ang militar ng mga puwersa nito sa Marawi City na kung saan ay lumiliit na ang hawak na lugar ng ISIS doon.

Kahapon ay pormal ng lumisan pabalik ng Luzon ang 1st Infantry Battalion upang magpahinga ang mga sundalo nito at sumailalim sa “enhancement training”. Ang nasabing unit ay isa sa mga unang ipinadala sa Marawi upang makipaglaban sa ISIS. Ito rin ang napagligtas sa 34 katao na bihag ng mga jihadist.

Pinarangalan naman ng militar si Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Tampus at 3 pang company commanders nito at binigyan sila ng Silver Cross Medal at Commander Plaque mula sa Western Mindanao Command. Nasa 500-600 ang bilang ng isang batalyon.

“I laud the men and women of the 1st Infantry Battalion for their dedicated service and for being here at the onset of the Marawi siege. My gratitude to you for a job well done,” ani Major General Danilo Pamonag, ng Joint Task Marawi.

Una nang dineklara ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na “liberated” na ang Marawi matapos na mapatay kamakailan ang pinuno ng local na ISIS na si Isnilon Hapilon at ang jihadist commander na si Omar Maute. Napaslang rin kamakalawa si Malaysian university professor Dr Mahmud Ahmad na kabilang sa mga lider ng ISIS sa Marawi City.

Sa kabila nito ay patuloy naman ang opensiba pa ng militar laban sa mga natitirang jihadists na tinatayang mahigit pa sa tatlong dosena na may hawak rin sa ilang mga bihag. Kamakalawa lamang ay nailigtas rin ng militar ang 6 na mga bata at 4 kababaihan sa sentro ng Marawi.

Inaasahan na kapag tapos na ang labanan ay ang rebeldeng New People’s Army naman ang bibirahin ng militar at ito ay ayon na rin sa kautusan ni Duterte makaraang ibasura nito ang peace talks ng hindi lumagda sa cease-fire agreement ang mga komunista. (Mindanao Examiner)
