
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 15, 2014) – Police arrested a government militia leader in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines after he was intercepted on a checkpoint carrying suspected drugs and a gun.
Police said Gonzalo Mandawe, 34, was immediately detained for possessing suspected shabu and a Magnum revolver. Mandawe is said to be the leader of the Civilian Volunteer Organization in Cabatangan village.
Mandawe was apprehended in Maasin village where policemen headed by Inspector Antonio Ancheta were manning the checkpoint. Police said Mandawe’s gun had no permits.
It was not immediately known who organized the CVO in Cabatangan village, but the militia unit is supposed to be under the supervision of the local government. (Mindanao Examiner)
