DON’T BE SURPRISED if you see Italian-made and modern motorcycle taxis or tricycles plying the roads of Zamboanga and more are coming as part of the local government’s modernization program for the city’s antiquated transportation.
Mayor Beng Climaco recently led the unveiling of 38 units of Piaggio tricycles to its beneficiaries at the City Hall. These modern tricycles were acquired with funding assistance from the Zamboanga City Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The Euro-4 compliant tricycles are all fuel efficient – 36 kilometer per liter of fuel – has a low maintenance cost and flexibility on modifications because the Piaggio can be used for transport, roving business or deliveries. The 38 units were the first batch of tricycles that comply with the City Government’s thrust on 5-year modernization program.
Climaco stressed her strong commitment to support tricycle drivers and cooperatives to modernize their outdated vehicles. “There shall be no phase out of tricycles and we support our tricycle drivers…tricycle operators and drivers association, and that is why we have this modernization program for all tricycle drivers and operators,” she said.
The owners of the new tricycles thanked Climaco for her support to the tricycle drivers and operators and they called on other drivers and drivers association to avail of the Piaggio and modernized their old units. (Zamboanga Post)
