KIDAPAWAN CITY – The search is on for the most-awaited beauty contest in the municipality of Makilala in North Cotabato province – the Mutya ng Makilala 2019 – with 12 beautiful and gorgeous women vying for the prestigious title.

The event is part of the 65th Araw ng Makilala and Makilala Sinabbadan Festival 2019. The lovely candidates are Nhatalene Zhyel Dublan (Malasila); Nhevoryn Jean Perez (Poblacion); Cleope Rosmar Cueno (Malasila); Justine Mae Cabanilla (Buenavida); Dianne Pampura (New Israel); Lanie Sarte (Luayon); Sheila Mae Secretaria (Kisante); Mary Fyl Lina (Concepcion); Carmela Tubog (San Vicente); Mariel Cabanilla (Saguing); Chernie Lyn Tuadles (Poblacion) and Paloma Tubog (San Vicente).
The festival will also coincide with the celebration of the Women’s Day. It is also being participated by international award-winning beauty skin care product manufacturer “Amazing Beauty” who will bring celebrity guest Wowie de Guzman for the Zumba Fest on October 7 from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. in front of the Makilala Municipal Hall.
“We are very happy and honor to have the actor Wowie de Guzman and kudos to the Amazing Beauty Skin Care Products for taking the initiative not only to promote beautiful and glowing skin, but also in promoting our peaceful municipality as well,” organizers said. “Sa lahat ng mga kababaihan ng Makilala – sali na tayo, sumayaw at magsaya.”
The actor, whose real name is Jeffrey Camangyan, is also a dancer and a stage, film and TV actor. He was one of the top matinee idols from the 1990s. His break came as a member of dance group Universal Motion Dancers and he was nominated as Best Actor for FAMAS Award 1998 in Paano Ang Puso Ko.
In-charge of this year’s Mutya ng Makilala is the Department of Education – Armac leader Nestor Usop, of Kisante National High School; with Municipal Administrator Sheryl Orbita, the over-all and in-charge of Makilala Sinabbadan Festival 2019.
First termer and hard-working Makilala Mayor Armando Quibod together with his First Lady Conchita Quibod – who are both very supportive of the event – said the pageant does not only show the beauty of the local women, but also the rich cultural heritage of the town.
Members of the Sanguniang Bayan headed by its presiding officer Vice Mayor Ryan Tabanay praised the pageant andd urged residents to support and participate in the event by actively sharing the news of the festival on social media such as Facebook and Instagram, and to their friends and relatives residing outside North Cotabato.
By simply spreading the good news about Makilala and its festivities, it will surely attract local and foreign tourists and bring economic prosperity to the peaceful town.
The Mutya ng Makilala 2019 Casual and Talent presentation will be held at the Makilala parish covered court on October 7, while the pageant proper and coronation night are set on October 9 from 6 p.m. onwards at the Municipal Gymnasium.
This year’s festival theme is “Basta Makilala, Bongga na, Lingaw pa! Diri Ta!” The town of Makilala is known for its rubber industry and agricultural-industrial products, including woodworks. But its major firms are STANFILCO-DOLE which is engaged in cavendish banana production, and rubber processing companies – STANDECO, FARMA, MRDI, PIONEER, LASRI, MRI, and DAVCO – and wood processing company RNF Summit Industries, a manufacturer of quality pallets, doors and mouldings.
Makilala’s fertile lands produce the best rubber, rice, coconut, coffee, banana, vegetables and is famous for its sweet durian, marang, rambutan and mangosteen.
It also attracts regular tourists to Mount Apo National Park and two of the tallest waterfalls Matibago, Sang’ngawan and Padalagi; and the New Israel Ecological Adventure Park and its 2.2-kilometer zipline.
There are also cold springs and hot sulphuric pools which is reputed to have healing effects. Makilala is remarkably shaped with flatlands and criss-crossing terrain scattered along hills and plateaus.
The eastern and southern flanks virtually rise to form part of the Mt. Apo western ranges and the chain of mountains towards Davao Del Sur which are Mt. Libadan, Mt. Niponggis, Mt. Pangayasan and Mt. Gap. (Rhoderick Beñez)
