
DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 28, 2013) – The Philippine Army said a young mother who was injured after falling in a cliff while escaping a rebel bombing near their house in Compostela Valley province had died from internal injuries.
It said Ellen Sucnaan, 20, who just gave birth two months ago, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
The army said Sucnaan and her baby were vacationing in her mother’s house in the village of Tuboran in Mawab town when communist rebels detonated a landmine.
Panicked and fearing an attack by New People’s Army, Sucnaan took her baby and escaped behind the house, but they fell in the cliff. Both mother and child were injured, but the woman eventually died, according the 10th Infantry Division’s Civil Military Operation. (Mindanao Examiner)
