COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 15, 2011) – Two people were reported killed and several others wounded after a motorcycle rigged with explosives went off Thursday in the town center of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao province in the southern Philippines.
Officials said the explosion occurred shortly before 11 a.m. The powerful blast killed two civilians standing nearby, other reports said.
“We still don’t know the motive or who was behind this dastardly act. We condemn this attack and call on civilians to stay vigilant,” Army Major Sergio Macaranda, a spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division, told the Mindanao Examiner.
He said the motorcycle was rigged with explosives and remotely detonated. “Two people were wounded in the powerful blast,” he said.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack, but Muslim rebels are actively operating in the area. (Mindanao Examiner)
