COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 24, 2013) – A Filipino physician survived an assassination attempt on his life, but was wounded in the attack that occurred in Cotabato City in southern Philippines, police said Wednesday.
Police said Dr Remus Magabilen was shot by motorcycle gunmen as he drove his truck late Tuesday in downtown Cotabato. Despite his wound, Magabilen still managed to drive until he reached the hospital.
The attackers escaped after the shooting, but the motive of the ambush is still unknown.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the failed murder, but gun attacks in Cotabato are not uncommon and many of the killings remain unresolved. (With a report from Mark Navales)
