ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 16, 2012) – Motorcycle gunmen shot dead a civilian in an attack outside a shopping mall in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, a military report said on Thursday.

It said the attack, which occurred along Governor Camins Avenue near Midtown Plaza at around 8 p.m., killed Cris Dela Cruz.

“The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in his head and body which caused his instantaneous death,” the report said.

It said probers recovered four empty bullet casings and four bullet slugs from the site where Dela Cruz was gunned down. No other details were made available by authorities.

The motive of the killing is still unknown, but gun attacks and extrajudicial killings in Zamboanga are not uncommon and since January this year more than 100 people had been murdered and authorities largely blamed the killings to guns-for-hire who are actively operating here.
