ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 2, 2012) – Gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle shot a Muslim politician in a daring broad daylight attack Tuesday in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, police said.
Police said Farouk Alfad escaped with a minor wound after gunmen opened on his car while driving home from a gymnasium in the village of Canelar. The attackers escaped after the shooting.
Alfad, who is running as vice mayor in Tabuan Lasa in nearby Basilan province, said politics could be the motive of the failed assassination.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the shooting, but gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where hired killers are actively operating.
Just on Monday evening, an unidentified gunman shot dead an electronic technician Rey Reyes inside his house in Tumaga village. The attacker escaped after the killing. (Mindanao Examiner)
