“I want to thank the Wanita chief (Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil) for the unwavering support. Thank you to Wanita and please continue with the good works you have been doing.

“Before the election was held, during the election and at the by-elections, Wanita was taking every necessary steps day and night, which we appreciate very much.. Thank you Wanita UMNO Malaysia,” he said.

Najib ended his brief speech chanting, ‘Hidup Wanita’ three times to the cheer of 983 delegates present.

Earlier, Shahrizat urged delegates while launching the movement’s meeting, to stand behind their party president and give him their unwavering support.

“Let Wanita lead the way in providing Datuk Seri Najib the strength to steer the party. Let Wanita be the fort to defend the party,” she said.

Najib who was with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor also launched the ‘Tabung Pejuang Nadi Rakyat’, which is an initiative of the movement to ensure that the wellbeing of its veteran members is given due attention.

“The fund is set up in appreciation of our past Wanita chiefs and leaders who are now elderly and may be suffering from illness or a disaster and so on.

“Currently, there are more than 1.3 million active Wanita UMNO members and this fund would hopefully ensure this,” she said in a statement here, Wednesday.(Bernama)
