ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 21, 2013) – Patuloy ngayon ang negosasyon ng mga emisaryo ng pamahalaang Aquino sa liderato ng daan-daang mga miyembro ng Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo na pumasok sa Sabah, Malaysia.
Tinatayang nasa 600 na ang mga ito at karamihan ay mula sa lalawigan ng Sulu, ang sentro ng Sultanate. Mahigit sa 2 linggo na ang standoff sa pagitan ng Sultanate at Malaysian authorities dahil sa pagtanggi ng mga ito na sumiuko at bumalik sa Sulu.
Iginiit ng Sultanate na ang Sabah ay pagmamay-ari nito. Pinangungunahan ni Raja Muda Azzimudie Kiram, ang kapatid ni Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, ang grupo.
Ayon naman sa mga government sources ay may plano ang pamahalaan na magdala ng isang Philippine Air Force C-130 transport plane o naval boat sa Sabah upang sunduin ang grupo ni Kiram.
“Ongoing yun negosasyon at may ilang mga plano na rin at kabilang dito ang pagpapadala ng C130 o kaya ay barko ng navy sa Sabah upang sunduin at eskortehan ang grupo ni Sultan Kiram pabalik sa Sulu. Pero depende ito sa sitwasyon sa grounds,” ani pa ng isang source sa Mindanao Examiner.
Nanawagan naman ang mga ibang Malaysian officials na tapusin na ang standoff sa bayan ng Lahad Datu na kung saan ay napapaligiran na ang mga sundalo at pulis ang lugar na kinalalagyan ng grupo ni Kiram.
Sa ulat ng Daily Express sa Sabah ay sinabi naman umano ni Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein na hindi papayag ang Malaysia na makompromiso ang siguridad ng Sabah sa patuloy na standoff, subali’t peaceful negotiation pa rin ang isinusulong nito. “Since they had guns, it is important our action does not lead to bloodshed,” ani ng opisyal.
“The issue is not political, not racial, no connection with the stand on sovereignty but in our context this is our land and this is something that can jeopardize the nation’s security. This is why we are trying to handle wisely without bloodshed or loss of lives in our land,” dagdag pa nito.
Ngunit para kay Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng ay pumalpak si Hishammuddin at kung naganap umano ito sa kanyang teritoryo ay sigurading proactive ang hakbang nito.
“If there was a group of 100 heavily armed men, I would have sought help from the federal government to send the police and army to get rid of the militants or take severe action on them. They should be taken out because they threatened, challenged and disturbed the safety of the people and sovereignty of the country,” ani pa nito.
“I am shocked that despite their refusal to leave, no action has been taken and that Hishammuddin has said that they are neither militants nor terrorists. How can he say that? They had grenade launchers and machine guns.”
Maging ang Sabah Democratic Action Party Youth ay nanawagan pang sibakin sa puwesto si Hishammuddin at Defence Minister Datuk Zahid Hamidi dahiol sa kanilang kabiguan na pigilan ang pagpasok ng grupo ni Kiram sa Sabah at tinawag pa itong “shameful failure” na yumurak sa karangalan ng Malaysia bilang isang bansa.
“The decision to opt for negotiation instead of upholding the country’s law against the armed intruders is an indication that the two ministers are unfit for their post. Hishammuddin and Zahid should resign because they are clearly incapable of protecting the security and sovereignty of Sabah against armed foreign elements,” ani pa nito sa ulat ng Borneo Post.
“Armed intruders calling themselves the Royal Army of the Sulu Sultanate are claiming Sabah’s land as their ancestral rights and refusing to leave Sabah despite being reportedly surrounded by the security forces. There is nothing to negotiate. What they should have done was to detain and punish them as an enemy of the State, the same way they treated the Australian Senator who was deported back for allegedly being a threat to the nation,” dagdag pa ng militante.
