Nevada police search for murder suspect who escaped custody – Fox News

Editor September 5, 2016

Authorities in Nevada searched Sunday for a murder suspect who escaped police custody after being placed in an interview room.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Alonso Perez, 25, was arrested by North Las Vegas police Friday at around 10 a.m. in connection with an Aug. 27 murder. He was then transferred to the department’s detective bureau and was placed in an interview room still handcuffed.

North Las Vegas police spokesman Aaron Patty said that a detective left the room and Perez was able to turn the handcuffs “until he broke free and escaped the building.”

According to the paper, Perez stole a white 2016 Ford F-250 pickup truck from a business and drove away. No one was injured in the robbery. The Associated Press reported that the vehicle was found Sunday, but Perez was still missing.

The Review-Journal reported that Perez was wanted in the shooting death of 31-year-old Mohammed Robinson. Police haven’t said what links Perez to Robinson’s death.

Robinson’s family expressed outrage about Perez’s escape to KSNV-TV.

“How can you let him escape? I don’t understand it at all,” Maggie Robinson, the murder victim’s sister told the station. “You don’t have any more security than that. You are interviewing a murder suspect, so you mean you couldn’t have another person there?”

Perez is described as a Hispanic man, about 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes with a goatee. He was last seen wearing dark shorts, black shoes and a white jersey with two stripes on each sleeve. His jersey had the No. 21 printed on the front and the back.

Police said he also has an Air Jordan tattoo under his left ear.

“If located, do not contact Perez as he is considered armed and dangerous,” Patty said.(Fox News)
