COTABATO CITY – Two motorcycle gunmen exploded a grenade Wednesday at the regional office of the National Irrigation Administration in North Cotabato province in southern Philippines, reports said.
It said another improvised explosive was also recovered and disarmed by police and military outside the office in Villarica village in Midsayap town.
There were no reports of injuries or casualties, but the grenade blast damaged the windows of the office and cars parked outside.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the blast and police were investigating the attack.
The province is a known lair of communist and Moro insurgents who were previously tagged by authorities as behind attacks on government and military targets.
The motive of the attack is still unclear and extortion could also be another motive for the blast that occurred during the agency’s 37th Founding Day celebration. (Mindanao Examiner)
