KIDAPAWAN CITY – A notorious drug dealer was killed and a running gun battle with security forces on Tuesday in North Cotabato province in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said Misuari Mulod was fatally shot in the firefight, but his companion managed to escape on a motorcycle in the village of Batulawan in Pikit town.
The two men escaped a checkpoint manned by soldiers and policemen and then engaged security forces in a chase on the highway.
The running gun battle lasted several minutes. There were no reports of casualties on the side of the military and police. Officials said Mulod had a string of criminal cases and is long wanted by the police.
Just recently, security forces also killed Datugan Gumaga, who was one of North Cotabato’s most wanted criminals with links to Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, in a clash also in Pikit town.
Policemen, backed by soldiers, were trying to serve a warrant for his arrest when Gumaga opened fire on security personnel, sparking a firefight. Gumaga was eventually shot and killed and his body claimed by relatives. (Mindanao Examiner)
