
DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 9, 2011) – Maoist rebels killed a government soldier and wounded 3 more in a fire fight in the southern Philippine province of Davao Oriental, officials said on Wednesday.
Officials said the soldiers, belonging to the 28thInfantry Battalion, were patrolling the village of San Isidro in the town of Lupon when they encountered some 60 New People’s Army rebels and fire fight ensued.
The fighting lasted over 2 hours and officials said that troops killed a still undetermined number of gunmen, said Lieutenant Colonel Leopoldo Imbang, Jr., commander of the 28th Infantry Battalion.
“The clash resulted to a two-hour fire fight. One soldier was killed and three others were wounded while undetermined casualties on the lawless element’s side,” he said.
The rebels are fighting for a separate state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
