PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 27, 2012) – Communist rebels raided a village in the southern Philippines and torched at least 6 backhoe units owned by a private contractor.
New People’s Army rebels swooped down in the village of Kagubaan in the coastal town of Kinoguitan in Misamis Oriental province over the weekend and burned the backhoes.
Authorities said no one was wounded or killed in the attack and that rebels were demanding so-called “revolutionary taxes” from the contractor.
The rebels are fighting for a separate state in the Philippines. (Mindanao Examiner)
