Oaminals, Team Asenso undefeated, clinch ‘historic’ victory in MisOcc midterm elections

Editor May 17, 2025

The Oaminal-led Team Asenso swept the 2025 midterm elections in Misamis Occidental, securing a
complete victory from the provincial to the local level, including congressional and party-list
positions.

The Provincial Board of Canvassers officially proclaimed the winners one day after the elections with
what many described as a “tsunami victory” for the political powerhouse. Team Asenso captured the
governor and vice governor posts, both congressional seats, all 14 municipal mayoral seats, three
city mayoral seats, vice mayors, councilors, and dominated the party-list vote.

Re-elected Governor Henry Oaminal won by a wide margin, securing 297,067 votes, while his closest
rival, Samson Dumanjug, received only 38,330 votes. Other candidates Marc Lester Malandaya and
Bibiano Salvanera trailed behind with 1,256 and 416 votes, respectively.

In the 2nd District congressional race, Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal retained his seat with
176,532 votes, soundly defeating Rudy Luna, who got 12,584 votes.

The Oaminals’ influence also extended to the party-list contest, where Asenso Pinoy Party-List
received a dominant 265,104 votes, or 84.63% of the total votes in the province. This overwhelming
support contributed significantly to the party-list’s projected congressional seat, to be filled by
Ozamiz City Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal, Jr.

Governor Oaminal attributed their victory to the people’s trust in Team Asenso’s leadership. “We
are grateful for the confidence placed in us by Misamisnons. For Team Asenso, this outcome
validates our efforts in the realization of the 5Ms development thrust, and every initiative brought
about by our collaboration at the national and local government level,” he shared.

The 5Ms or Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon (Misamisnon Live
Peaceful, Prosperous and Happy) is the provincial government’s development roadmap established
by the governor’s provincial administration.

“What makes this success unprecedented is that for the first time, every seat from governor to
councilor, including both congressional districts, was won by Team Asenso,” Oaminal added. “Not a
single seat was lost.”

He praised the discipline of the Misamisnons for contributing to the peaceful election process and
thanked local leaders, law enforcement agencies, and volunteers for their roles in ensuring a smooth
election. “This marks my seventh election victory, and I must say that this is the most orderly and
peaceful election in Misamis Occidental’s history,” said the governor.

“Your collective efforts made this historic victory possible. On behalf of the entire Team Asenso –
Vice Governor Gutierrez, our congressmen, board members, mayors, and councilors -thank you,”
Oaminal added.

Vice Governor Rowena Gutierrez was also re-elected with 285,168 votes, trouncing Ruel Yap, who
garnered 38,505 votes.

In the 1st District, Jason Almonte secured re-election with 122,329 votes, defeating Roy Yap who
earned 28,542 votes.

With a clean sweep at all levels, from provincial positions to city and municipal councilors, Team
Asenso now holds a firm political bloc in Misamis Occidental, setting the stage for what Governor
Oaminal calls a “unified and focused governance” moving forward. (PR)
