ZAMBOANGA CITY – A Filipino overseas worker who came home for a vacation was killed in a gun attack early Thursday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said the 30-year old Sadikal Apostol was heading home in Santa Catalina village when a lone gunman shot him along Martha Drive. The assailant escaped on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Apostol was shot in the body and face and died instantly from the attack. The motive of the killing is still unknown, but police said the attacker was waiting for Apostol and even called his name before shooting him dead.
The man was also brought to the hospital, but doctors said Apostol had been dead already when he arrived. Police said Apostol was shot with a .45-caliber pistol. No individual claimed responsibility for the murder.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga where hired killers actively operate. (Mindanao Examiner)
