PAGADIAN CITY – Police said a lone gunman had killed a village council member in Pagadian City in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Sur.
It said Russel Labiaga, 35, of Gatas village, was shot repeatedly near the Mormons Church in Santo Ñino village. Labiaga had just parked his motorcycle when the assailant, who was hiding in a van, attacked without warning.
Police said witnesses saw the attacker, who had a red and white and scarf around his neck, fled after the shooting. Labiaga was shot at least 7 times with a .45-caliber pistol. He died in the hospital.
Policemen recovered Labiaga’s clutch bag which contained a pistol and a magazine with 14 bullets, and several identification cards, including his gun license and an expired permit allowing him to carry his weapon.
The attack was believed connected to a grudge, according to the police, which is currently investigating the murder.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Pagadian City where hired killers are actively operating. (Mindanao Examiner)
