
BASILAN PROVINCE (Mindanao Examiner / Sept, 3, 2014) – Gunmen shot dead a Pakistani man and wounded his Filipino driver during a highway robbery Wednesday afternoon in the restive province of province in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, police said.
Police identified the foreigner as Rehman Kan and his driver Albert Palconit. The duo was on a motorcycle when gunmen attacked them near the village of Parang Basak in Lamitan City. The assailants fled after robbing the victims.
The foreigner was engaged in money lending and residing in Lamitan. No individual claimed responsibility for the attack, but there are different armed groups from Abu Sayyaf to extortionists operating in Lamitan and other parts of Basilan.
Police said it is investigating the case and that a small team was dispatched to track down the attackers who could be residents of Lamitan City.
There were no other details about the foreigner or whether he was living alone or with other group of Pakistani in Basilan. But there were other reports that the victim was an Indian man and not Pakistani national.
Just recently, Abu Sayyaf militants led by Radzmil Jannatul alias Kubayb killed two government militias Hajji Aldam and Mused in an ambush near the village of Mahatalang in Sumisip town.
The duo was guarding the Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Development Corporation when gunmen attacked them. The militants also carted the victims’ weapons before fleeing. (Mindanao Examiner)
