‘Pamaskong Handog’ in Malaysia

THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY in Kuala Lumpur said it will hold its annual Christmas celebration with the Filipino community in cooperation with PLDT-Malaysia’s Smart Pinoy on Sunday at the KL LIVE @ Life Centre at Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.

Dubbed “Pamaskong Handog”, the program will bring together Filipinos in Malaysia in an afternoon of music, dance and entertainment, where selected Filipino organizations will showcase their talents and several raffle draws and other games.

Joining the event are artists from the Philippines—popular singer-actress Regine Velasquez, actor and host Derek Ramsay, up and coming singer Michael Pangilinan, television personalities Ate Gay and Regina and Malaysia-based Filipino singer Mark Adam, whose love song “Pencuri” (Thief) is a hit in Malaysian airwaves.

During the celebration, the Gabay Guro (2G) program of the PLDT Foundation will also be launched in Malaysia, according to a press statement sent by the Embassy to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

It said skills training for Filipino workers in Malaysia and alternative education for Filipino children in Sabah are a priority for the Philippine Embassy. The 2G program is an education arm and a flagship project of the PLDT-SMART Foundation, which aims to further education and educational initiatives in the Philippines.

Run by volunteers composed of the PLDT Manager’s Club Inc., its core programs include scholarship grants for those who wish to pursue an education degree, trainings for educators, trainings and educational facilities, livelihood programs, provision of broadband internet and computers to schools and teacher’s tribute.

The Embassy and Smart Pinoy will be honoring teachers and mentors based in Malaysia during the event. “Christmas is one holiday that is widely celebrated in the Philippines, and we wish to give our nationals here in Malaysia a gift – bring to them a feel of home by bringing them together in this concert.”

“At the same time, we believe that education is a privilege and a gift to those who will receive it.  We hope that our education initiatives will reach those who need it most,” Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya said.

“The program is also a way to thank our Filipino nationals and our friends for their support in Embassy programs and projects throughout the year,” he added. (Mindanao Examiner)
