PhilHealth to hire more nurses

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 12, 2012) – The state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has started hiring registered nurses to provide “personalized customer care” to members and dependents at point-of-service – in hospitals where they seek treatment.

PhilHealth president and chief executive officer Dr. Eduardo Banzon said the nurses will be employed as part of the firm’s Customer Assistance, Relations and Empowerment Staff (CARES). They will receive a monthly compensation of around P15,000 plus health insurance coverage.

It said those interested to join PhilHealth CARES have until February 14 to apply online and email their resumes to hrmdd.admin@philhealth.gov.ph under the subject heading “PhilHealth CARES Application.”

PhilHealth said applicants should have superior communication skills, both oral and written; have the ability to listen and respond to customer concerns; be knowledgeable about MS Office applications; and adept at using online application systems on wireless communication devices.

“We expect them to be totally customer-focused, passionate about results, and highly resourceful,” Banzon said in a statement sent to the Mindanao Examiner.

He said at least 530 nurses will be initially deployed starting next month, after PhilHealth completes the recruitment and training processes.

Once deployed, Banzon said the nurses will ensure the hassle-free availment of benefits by qualified PhilHealth members via spot eligibility checks in hospitals.

“They will expedite the documentary requirements of PhilHealth members in hospitals, and lessen the return-to-hospital (benefit) claims. We are absolutely committed to care for every PhilHealth member and his or her qualified dependent,” he said.

Banzon said the CARES nurses will also help encourage non-members to enlist with PhilHealth, and facilitate payment of insurance premiums in the cashiering units of hospitals.

“We’ve chosen to recruit nurses not only because they’ve been trained to provide care for patients, but also we recognize that many nurses are having extreme difficulty obtaining any gainful employment,” he said.

The Professional Regulation Commission sees the number of totally unemployed Filipino nurses hitting 298,000 this year, to include the 68,000 who took the licensure exam in December.
