DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 4, 2012) – The Philippine Army has tagged communist insurgents as behind a grenade attack that left at least 47 people wounded in Davao City in Mindanao, officials said Tuesday.
Officials said among those wounded in the weekend attack in Paquibato district were 13 minors who were watching a circus show in the village of Fatima.
“Again, they have shown their true nature as cold-blooded criminals who care less even if they endanger civilian populace,” Col. Lyndon Paniza, a spokesman for the 10th Infantry Division, said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
“Someone should be held responsible and should be penalized on these continuous wanton violations committed by the criminal group,” he said.
Paniza also questioned why human rights groups were silent over atrocities committed by the rebels. “Human rights watchdogs seem to have been passive whenever these atrocities happen perpetrated by the criminal group New People’s Army,” he said.
