DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 31, 2012) – The Philippine Army has embarked on a new literacy program – teaching students in Mindanao – a specialized “agricultural” subject which aims to further promote peace and development strategy in the the southern region.
Soldiers from the 701st Infantry Brigade led by Technical Sergeant Panzuelo are now teaching students at the Mati Comprehensive National High School – in coordination with Department head (Technology and Livelihood Education) Carlos Juanillo and support from the Department of Agriculture – about the propagation of mushroom and organic fermentation.
“The 701st Infantry Brigade will continue the information awareness drive in different schools within its area of responsibility as mandated from the higher headquarters and support the School Peace and Development Outreach Program campaign of the 10th Division,” said First Lieutenant Christy Isis Achanzar, the army’s public affairs officer, in a statement sent to the Mindanao Examiner.
