
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 17, 2011) – The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (Philexport) in Western Mindanao has elected its new set of officers during a recent reorganizational meeting in Zamboanga City.
Engineer George Ledesma, of the Zamboanga Carrageenan Manufacturing Corporation, has been elected as President, with Engineer Efren Wee, of the Philippine International Development Corp., as his Vice-President. The others who were elected were Edgar Lim, of Permex Producer and Exporter Corp., Secretary; Ronnel Castelo, of Ayala Seafoods Corp. as Treasurer.
Ledesma thanked those who gave their trust and confidence in him even as he solicited everyone’s support to address the many issues confronting the exports sector and in the implementation of programs of Philexport in the region.
Nazrullah Manzur, the Department of Trade and Industry director in Western Mindanao, said that the role of Philexport is to serve as a catalyst in the development of the country’s exports sector.
He also stressed the need for the organization to come up with a work plan for 2012-2013 indicating doable programs and activities that are focused, and to promote products that would help the balance of trade especially between Zamboanga and Sandakanin the oil-rich Malaysian state of Sabah.
Philexport is the umbrella organization of Philippine exporters, whose services are focused on helping its members succeed in international trade. It champions the business interests of its member-exporters such as in opening doors to new markets and in strengthening their capabilities so they are better positioned in taking full advantage of market opportunities.
