CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – An ageing military UH-1H chopper has crashed Wednesday afternoon inside an army base in Cagayan de Oro City in southern Philippines after transporting a senior army commander, officials said.
Officials said no one was hurt in the crash, but a photo posted by television network GMA News showed the Huey helicopter lying upside down on its main rotor.
The report said two pilots were injured from the crash. Aside from the two pilots, the chopper also has two gunnery sergeants.
The Eastern Mindanao Command said the chopper was heading back to the headquarters of the Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group 10 after ferrying its commander, Major General Oscar Lactao, when it crashed.
Lactao came from Butuan City where he inspected troops from the 402ndInfantry Brigade.
“The helicopter was about to go back to Headquarters Tactical Operations Group 10 after transporting Maj. Gen. Oscar Lactao, the commander of 4th Infantry Division from  Headquarters 402nd Infantry Brigade in Bancasi, Butuan City to Headquarters 4th Infantry Division in Cagayan de Oro when the incident happen. No one was reported to be hurt on the said incident,” Major Ezra Balagtey, a spokesman for the Eastern Mindanao Command, told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
The air force has ordered an investigation into the crash and grounded other UH-1H helicopters until the results of the probe comes out to determine whether it was pilot error or mechanical failure. (Mindanao Examiner)
