ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 8, 2013) – Police arrested two men who tried to smuggle out Friday some 20 kilos of illegal drugs called shabu at the airport in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the men – Mohammad Daud and Salim Sabtari – were being investigated in Zamboanga following the discovery of the drugs, also known also methamphetamine hydrochloride, in their baggage.

The men were supposed to fly to the capital town of Bonggao in Tawi-Tawi to deliver the drugs in Sabah, Malaysia.

The drugs were hidden inside milk boxes, but were discovered by airport police.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, citing an initial report, said Daud and Sabtari arrived on November 7 in Zamboanga City from Manila where the drugs originated. “The stuff, according to them, was given to them by a certain Aping in Ermita, Manila for transport to Lahad Datu and Semporna in Sabah, Malaysia,” he said.

It was not immediately known how the drugs managed to pass through strict airport security in Manila without being detected by police authorities. (Mindanao Examiner)
