DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 21, 2013) – Communist rebels ambushed a group of government soldiers on Tuesday and wounded six in Tagum City in southern Philippines, officials said.
Army Lt. Vilma Mojado said among those wounded were two female soldiers and a military dependent and that fighting broke out between the soldiers and members of the New People’s Army.
She said the rebels detonated a roadside bomb that hit the military vehicle in the village of Magdum. “The wounded were evacuated to the hospital,” Mojado said.
There were no reports of enemy casualties, she said.
The NPA, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has been fighting for decades now for the establishment of a separate state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
