MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 29, 2012) – The Philippines on Monday said it would continue efforts to bring home Filipinos working in war-torn Syria.

“There has been no let-up in the Department of Foreign Affairs’ efforts to bring Filipinos from Syria safely home,” it said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

It said 44 Filipinos are also expected to arrive home on Tuesday and bring the total number of repatriates to more than 2,800. Some 35 Filipinos now staying at the Philippine Embassy are also being readied for repatriation.

“The DFA continues to urge the next-of kin of Filipinos in Syria to provide latest information regarding their relatives’ present location and contact details in Syria. And those who wish to do so may call the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs at (02) 834-4996 or (02) 834-3333. Filipinos in Syria may also contact the Philippine Embassy for assistance at 963-11-6132626,” it said.
