MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / May 17, 2014) – Philippine President Benigno Aquino inaugurated the country’s first and biggest solar power plant in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental province.
The plant is operated by the San Carlos Solar Energy Inc. and has started operations on May 15. Aquino has urged developers Bronzeoak Philippines and Swiss-German firm Thomas Lloyd to also invest and put up solar power plants in other parts of central and southern Philippines where electricity remains a problem for many areas due to scarcity of power facilities in the two regions.
The solar power plant- at the San Carlos Economic Zone – has a capacity to produce at least 22 megawatts of electricity that would benefit many households and industries.
Jose Maria Zabaleta, chairman of the power plant, said they are working on four additional facilities in San Carlos which would be operation next year. (Mindanao Examiner)
