MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / June 9, 2014) – The Philippines said it will ban foreigners who are facing sexual abuse charges or whose names are included in the so-called registry of sex offenders.
Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison said any foreigner whose name is found in the registry as may be provided by a foreign embassy will not be allowed in the country or may be issued an order to leave if he managed to enter the Philippines.
He said foreigners tagged as sex offenders clearly pose a threat to public safety.
This after the Bureau of Immigration recently deported a 67-year old American Robert Snyder following his arrest in Dumaguete City in the central Philippine province of Negros Oriental.
Snyder, who had been a fugitive for ten years in connection with a sex assault case in the US, was arrested by a joint team of Filipino immigration agents and American law enforcers.
Five foreign fugitives, who were accused of rape and child molestation in their countries, were also deported in February after their passports were revoked by authorities.
